Update 04.05.26

What does your role as Quality and Environment Manager involve?

Hélène Bak: “My role is to ensure the Quality and Environmental Management System is effectively implemented at Delta Plus in Apt. The site is ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified.

This is important because it demonstrates our commitment to our customers and partners. I ensure that the processes in place meet the requirements of these standards.

My job is to lead and coordinate this quality and environmental initiative, as well as to contribute to the group’s CSR policy.”

In your opinion, what are the essential qualities for your role?

Hélène Bak: “It’s a cross-functional role that involves working with all departments. So you need to be adaptable, curious, diplomatic and enjoy interacting with people.”

You have held this role in various sectors. How is it different in the PPE sector?

Hélène Bak: “What’s different is the specific environment at Delta Plus: its products and the applicable requirements, its context, and the organisational structure in place.

Furthermore, given our core business—PPE—the regulatory context is demanding. Compliance with product-related regulations is managed by several departments within the company, such as Compliance and the product managers.”

How is this Quality and Environment approach organised on a day-to-day basis?

Hélène Bak: “I focus on management, that is to say, the organisation the company puts in place to achieve its objectives in terms of customer satisfaction, product compliance, continuous improvement and reducing environmental impact

Each department implements processes with specific objectives aligned with the group’s overall policy. My role is to ensure that these processes comply with ISO standards, that the documentation on procedures is correctly drafted, and to oversee internal and external audits.

We have a network of around twenty quality and environment representatives in each department, who communicate the policy and participate in internal audits. We also organise quarterly steering committee meetings during which each representative presents their observations, actions and results.”

Regarding the environment, what concrete measures have been put in place?

Hélène Bak: “Delta Plus’s headquarters in Apt has already rolled out several initiatives aimed at reducing resource use and improving waste management.

For example:

  • the installation of a solar farm, the output of which is sold as green energy,
  • the construction of car park shade structures supporting a solar power plant,
  • the replacement of our photocopiers and the digitisation of our catalogue to minimise paper waste,
  • recycling our waste and raising staff awareness of waste sorting, as well as organising a clean-up walk.

Every subsidiary of the group is committed to the CSR initiative and is implementing initiatives tailored to their specific site.

One of the major projects currently underway is the group-wide carbon footprint assessment, which will provide an overview of our emissions and enable us to launch a targeted action plan."

In your view, how is the role of Quality and Environment Manager evolving?

Hélène Bak: “I have held this role in several companies over the past 20 years and have seen the role evolve significantly. Today, sustainable development is an integral part of our remit, which adds a new dimension to the role.

Corporate CSR policies are becoming increasingly important. This includes well-being at work and ethical practices. It now involves all departments, such as HR and Procurement.”
